OVERVIEW

NCCF In-Patient Classroom

NCCF created the first in-patient classroom in the state of Nevada and the only one that is facilitated by a non-profit organization. The classroom is located at Sunrise Children’s Hospital Pediatric Oncology Unit and provides children, grades kindergarten through 12th, with direct instruction in a classroom setting. These education services are also provided to in-patient children at University Medical Center (UMC).

C.A.P.S. PROGRAM
The Annual C.A.P.S. Ceremony celebrates students who have shown Courage, Achievement, Perseverance, and Success in the NCCF and Torino Foundation Education Services Program. This memorable event includes a presentation of honors and awards highlighting special achievements as well as a celebration with students, families, teachers, tutors and participants.

LEAN ON ME: KIDZ SUPPORTING KIDZ
Shane and Valerie, our large puppets mastered by volunteers, visit area schools educating classmates and teachers regarding the challenges of a life threatening or chronic illness that their ill classmate faces each day.

BACK TO SCHOOL IN STYLE
School supplies and new school clothes highlight the first day back in the classroom after missing 30 days or more of school due to illness.

NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING
NCCF coordinates the services of a local neuropsychologist to identify cognitive and affective deficits caused by disease and/or treatment. The evaluation assesses memory, learning, language, social skills, behavioral and emotion functioning and more.

TUTORING PROGRAM
Private and group tutoring is provided for all ill children and their siblings who need extra help with school work due to diagnosis and its ramifications.

ADVOCACY
Advocacy is led by the Director of Educational Services who supports and facilitates school meetings (504, IEP, and parent/teacher conferences) to educate school staff on a child’s medical, social and emotional needs to ensure a successful school setting.

VOLUNTEERS
NCCF offers a variety of volunteer opportunities within the education program including volunteer tutors, teachers, hospital classroom activity specialists, and C.A.P.S. committee volunteers.

DONATIONS
Please contact NCCF if you would like to donate back packs, gift cards ($5 – $25), computers, and school supplies for this program. Donations are needed and appreciated year round.
